A monthly budget planner that shows what's left to budget

Sample data

Fixed, flexible and non-monthly

Categories sit in groups, and every group is fixed, flexible or non-monthly. Fixed bills get their own amount, flexible categories share one pool, and non-monthly costs like travel or insurance build up month by month with rollover.

  • Expected income per income category
  • One flexible pool instead of a dozen tiny limits
  • Non-monthly amounts roll over until you spend them
  • Plan from this month on, or change one month only

Find the payments that repeat

WalletCalm looks through your history for payments that come back (rent, salary, streaming, insurance) and suggests turning them into recurring items. Recurring payments are recorded on their due date and appear in the bills calendar and the cash-flow forecast.

  • Suggestions from your own transactions
  • Weekly, monthly, yearly or custom schedules
  • Bill reminders 1, 3 or 7 days before
  • A cash-flow forecast for 90 days (365 with Pro)

Budgets, envelopes and rules

Prefer classic limits? Category budgets warn you at 80% and when you go over, with a pace marker for the month. Envelope budgets assign money each month and carry over what's left. Rules categorise new and imported transactions, and the merchant list tidies up bank names.

  • Warnings at 80% and over budget
  • Envelopes with rollover
  • Rules by text or regular expression
  • Rename and merge merchants

Reports that explain the month

A cash-flow diagram shows where your income went, by month, quarter or year. Merchant reports, category trends and a dashboard you can rearrange keep the important numbers in front of you.

  • Sankey cash-flow diagram
  • Top merchants and categories
  • Monthly, quarterly and yearly views
  • Every chart also as a table

Private by design

Your budget, categories and transactions are encrypted in your browser before they're saved. WalletCalm's servers store only ciphertext and can't read your plan.

Questions & answers

What's the difference between fixed, flexible and non-monthly spending?

Fixed costs are the same every month (rent, insurance, subscriptions) and get their own amount. Flexible costs change from month to month (groceries, eating out, transport) and share one amount. Non-monthly costs come a few times a year (travel, car service, gifts): you plan a monthly amount and what you don't spend rolls over.

What does “left to budget” mean?

It's your expected income minus everything you've planned: fixed bills, the flexible amount, non-monthly costs and goal savings. At zero, every euro has a job. If it's negative, you've planned more than you expect to earn.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No. You add transactions as you go or import a statement file from your online banking. WalletCalm never asks for your bank login.

Is the budget planner free?

Yes. The budget plan, budgets, recurring payments and reports are in the free plan, with up to 5 budgets and 10 recurring payments. Pro raises that to 200 and 500.

Can I use the envelope method?

Yes. A category budget can be an envelope: you assign money each month and what's left rolls into the next. The budgets page shows how much is still ready to assign.
